How to instill a cat with good manners - says a specialist
There is a myth that cats cannot be trained and do only what they want "here and now." However, perseverance and patience allow, for example, instilling in a cat good manners: use a tray, not your shoes, as a toilet, sharpen your claws on a claw-tip, not a sofa, and even walk on a harness.
Despite the external independence, domestic cats, as a rule, are nevertheless guided by the opinion of the owners and are ready to master the basic program. The main thing is not to “break” the cat, but to use its natural inclinations.
For example, curiosity will allow you to teach your pet how to use a scratching post. You can draw your own nails several times on this wonderful subject - in front of your pet. The kitten will probably be interested in a scratching sound, it can repeat your movements and find that the claw-point, in general, is not at all as bad as it might seem at first glance.

To arouse even more interest, you can treat the claw-tip with something attractive, such as catnip. You can repeat the processing in a few days.
One of the biggest mistakes: to take a kitten by the paws and try to forcibly “teach” to scratch a claw-tip. Coercion is what cats hate with all their heart. The kitten will be outraged, and it will already be quite difficult for you to overcome his aversion to this subject.
You can train your cat to a suitable harness. At first, they put it on for a short time, so that the fluffy gets used to it. Then you can start walking on a leash - first around the house, then briefly go out into the yard. Your main one at the same time is to ensure the safety of your four-legged friend.
It is better to start training a kitten from an early age, as soon as he appeared in your house.
You can teach a cat funny tricks. Take a look at your pet’s habits. If the cat likes to jump, you can teach her to jump on your shoulder or overcome small barriers. If purrs like to wear toys in their teeth, you can master the aporting. There are cats who love to climb their hind legs. But remember that by force you do not teach a pet anything.
Keep in mind that cats get tired pretty quickly. Therefore, classes should be short (several minutes), and one action should not be repeated more than 2-3 times.
Encouragement can be praise, delicacy or affection - it all depends on the preferences of the cat. Remember that you need to be encouraged at the very moment when she performed the desired action.
Act in stages, do not demand everything at once. Your main resource is patience, stock it.
If a cat does some kind of obscenity (from your point of view), it can be distracted by offering a treat. Or say a solid no. A sharp short sound is unpleasant enough for cats. But the kitten needs to be corrected at the very moment when it “commits a crime”. Because even if two seconds pass after an undesirable action, he will no longer understand what exactly you are unhappy with.
Absolute taboos should be imposed on loud screams, abuse and physical punishment.
Cats are very emotional, and such actions on your part will make them shy or embittered.
If the cat is afraid of the owner, she is constantly in tension. And when she is left alone, she is simply forced to actively move as a discharge, including scratching objects or involuntarily emptying the bladder.
A cat never takes revenge on a person for anything. If you tend to blame the pet for something like that, it means that she feels tremendous discomfort and thus signals you that something is wrong.
